Kebijakan ekonomi dan hukum yang dituangkan dalam GBHN yaitu mengembangkan perekonomian yang berorientasi global dan sistem ekonomi kerakyatan yang bertumpu pada mekanisme pasar serta mengembangkan peraturan perundang-undangan yang mendukung kegiatan perekonomian dalam menghadapi era perdagangan bebas tanpa merugikan kepentingan nasional, membawa konsekuensi terhadap peraturan perundang-undangan pranata bisnis di Indonesia dewasa ini. Konsekuensinya, diperlukan perubahan dan penyesuaian terhadap peraturan perundang-undangan yang secara langsung berkaitan dengan Perjanjian Putaran Uruguaydalam kerangka WTO yang telah ditandatangani dan diratifikasi. Beberapa telaah terhadap Undang-Undang dan rancangan Undang-Undang diutarakan demi mendukung konsep sustainable development.
